A friend of mine at work went to the kobota dealer near his house and looked at a few tractors. He was intrested in the BX 1850 with the standard mower deck and was quoted a price of $8,400. All he said that he wanted it for was to cut the grass and mow food plots. Then he started talking about the front end loader and bush-hog. I gave him the usual speach about, pick a good dealer, parts and such. I told him I would ask the experts at TP to help out. So whats the skinny?

When you say mow food plots that makes me think ground clearance, and there isn't much on a BX1850. I would step up a level if it is rough terrain and alot of plot work. ....

Many subcompacts have a fan on the shaft that drives the transmission. When going over downed limbs or tall grass it could be hazardous to it's health:( The point from Dennis about the overall chassis height of regular compacts could help. Look at the factory mid decks, they can handle tough conditions with the drive belt they use. Might be able to mow with the mid mower on high depending on the frequency and the type of grass :) ....

I live next to a rather large corn/bean field with ~ a 25' right of way. It is my neighbors, but he does not mow the right of way so when I am done with my 3 acre yard I raise up the deck to 4" on my 2230 and it easily mows the 2' and higher weeds. I even mow at the same speed as I do on my yard. I am amazed at what the little BX will "eat". ....
